A gutsy performance from Palace saw them hit the ground running this year with a victory hosting Southampton. It didn’t look too likely given the Saints had been the third best traveling Premier League side last term, while the Eagles went into it off the back of seven defeats from their final eight winless outings at the end of last season, but it seems the month off has allowed the side to regroup well.

Bournemouth also got their Championship season off to a winning start against Blackburn and they’ll be gunning to jump straight back up to England’s top-flight division. It could be a fairly tall order though, with key players Nathan Ake, Callum Wilson, Aaron Ramsdale and Ryan Fraser all leaving the club, while multiple others also departed.

Fortunately for the hosts, Palace have lost all their last four road games to nil and by at least two clear goals, although three of those did come against Liverpool, Leicester and Wolves, while if we go one trip further back, they actually beat the Cherries 2-0 in their last visit to Vitality Stadium in late June.

The Eagles have generally tended to put more resources into their FA Cup campaign than the League Cup down the years. However, they’ve still managed fourth round finishes in this tournament in two of their last three seasons although they’ve had the pick of the fixtures.

Indeed, Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Colchester Utd have been the outfits to knock them out for the last three attempts and they probably should’ve done better from the kind draws that they’ve been given.

Bournemouth Double Chance

Jason Tindall’s men have come up trumps in this competition having reached the quarters in two of their last three seasons, as you have to go back to December 2014 when hosting Liverpool for the last time they lost in the League Cup here over 90 minutes.

That includes a run of four wins from seven unbeaten outings, while that compares to Palace’s record of four defeats from their last six such trips, as all of Man City, Southampton, Bristol and Middlesbrough got the better of them respectively.

We’re therefore unconvinced of the chances of Roy Hodgson’s men in grinding out a victory in this one and we’ll back the Cherries on the double chance.
