Recent Finals And Form

Play-off finals are understandably nervous affairs a lot of the time, with six of the last seven featuring no more than two goals, as five saw one or none at all.

Those same six matches saw at least one team or the other fail to score, with eight goals across the seven games.

Interestingly, of those eight strikes, six were bagged by the team that finished higher in the table as those sides have won four and drawn the other over the past five years.

That’s good news for Brentford then, with a vastly superior goal difference seeing them finish ahead of their opponents here.

Thomas Frank’s men will have been hugely disappointed to miss out on automatic promotion after winning eight of their final 10 games, but their performance last time out suggests that they’re back in the right frame of mind.

Meanwhile, Fulham are hardly in poor form themselves, having won six of eight unbeaten matches prior to their second-leg defeat at home to Cardiff.

Scott Parker will be praying Aleksandar Mitrovic can shake off a hamstring complaint to feature here, with the Serb absent for both legs with the Welsh side. His 26 goals this term makes him by far and away their top scorer this season, with Tom Cairney next on the list with just eight to his name.

Worryingly, Mitrovic only has three goals from his past eight appearances since late February, so even if he’s rushed back on time it’s entirely possible that he won’t be at his lethal best.

In further bad news for the attack, Neeskens Kebano is struggling with a similar issue, with the 28-year-old netting in both legs of the semi-final.

Under 2.5 Goals

Fulham were the lowest scorers amongst the top five in the table this term, some 16 goals shy of top scorer Brentford, so will need to be at their resolute best in defence if they’re to secure promotion.

The Cottagers had to withstand heavy pressure in the second half against Cardiff and Brentford are certainly capable of laying siege to an opponent’s goal.

Indeed, a blistering first half display saw the Bees overturn their first-leg deficit against Swansea as they netted twice in the opening 15 minutes on Wednesday, before adding a third one minute into the second half.

Both Teams To Score (No)

Fulham finished some eight points above fifth-placed Cardiff, but against the three sides that finished above them, they’ve failed to score in all three encounters since the restart in June.

Brentford and Leeds inflicted 2-0 and 3-0 defeats respectively at the end of that month, while the Cottagers offered little attacking inspiration in a goalless stalemate at West Brom just over a fortnight ago.

Brentford To Win To Nil

Coming off the back of a busy schedule, the extra days rest will hardly hurt Brentford’s chances of success in this all West London affair.

The Bees have still won to nil in half their last 12 outings, including tussles with top-nine outfits West Brom, Preston and Fulham themselves and their opponents’ recent struggles in the final third against stronger outfits leave the win to nil an attractive option.

Under 2.5 Goals At 7/10

Both Teams To Score (No) At 5/6

Brentford To Win To Nil At 11/5
